State Guard members are often the first to become aware of legislation, directives, regulations, departmental policies, or administrative decisions that may affect their organization and fellow service members.

If you become aware of a newly introduced bill, proposed policy, military department directive, legislative action, budget decision, or public report involving a State Guard or State Defense Force, please notify the Office of Government & Legislative Affairs.

Reports may include actions that could:

- Reduce or eliminate State Guard funding, personnel, missions, or authority

- Restrict training, recruitment, equipment, benefits, or State Active Duty opportunities

- Misrepresent the purpose, professionalism, or legal status of a State Guard

- Weaken, reorganize, suspend, or abolish an existing force

- Affect the rights, protections, compensation, or recognition of its service members

- Create opportunities to establish, expand, or strengthen a State Defense Force

Our office will review the information, research the issue, and determine whether a legislative, administrative, public-policy, or legal response may be appropriate. This may include contacting lawmakers, submitting policy recommendations, preparing public responses, coordinating advocacy efforts, or referring the matter for legal review.

Reports may be submitted confidentially. Please provide as much supporting information as possible, including the bill number, directive, policy document, issuing agency, relevant dates, source links, and an explanation of how the action may affect the State Guard.
