Part-Time Legislative Advocacy Coordinator
The Office of Government & Legislative Affairs is seeking a Part-Time Legislative Advocacy Coordinator to support efforts to create, strengthen, and expand State Defense Forces through state legislation.
The coordinator will communicate with lawmakers, legislative staff, government officials, and partner organizations to educate them about proposed State Defense Force legislation and encourage support for bills that strengthen these organizations and their service members. The position will also assist with legislative research, advocacy materials, bill development, and public progress updates.
Primary Responsibilities
- Contact state legislators and legislative staff by telephone and email.
- Explain the purpose, provisions, and potential benefits of proposed State Defense Force legislation.
- Schedule or participate in meetings with lawmakers, staff members, and other stakeholders.
- Assist with researching existing laws, drafting legislative proposals, and reviewing bills and amendments.
- Track bill introductions, committee assignments, hearings, votes, amendments, and other legislative developments.
- Prepare regular progress reports and updates for the organization’s website, Patreon community, and supporters.
- Coordinate advocacy campaigns encouraging public and organizational support for priority legislation.
- Maintain accurate records of legislative contacts, communications, commitments, and follow-up actions.
- Ensure advocacy activities comply with applicable lobbying, disclosure, ethics, and nonprofit requirements.
This is a part-time position requiring several hours of work each week, with additional availability sometimes needed during active legislative sessions, committee hearings, or important votes. The ideal candidate will be professional, dependable, comfortable speaking by telephone, and strongly committed to advancing the State Defense Force mission.

Volunteer Grassroots Outreach Representative
The Office of Government & Legislative Affairs is seeking Volunteer Grassroots Outreach Representatives to help educate residents about proposed State Guard and State Defense Force legislation in their state.
Volunteers will contact residents to explain the legislation, answer basic questions using approved informational materials, and encourage supporters to respectfully contact their state delegate, representative, or senator. This position plays an important role in demonstrating public support and ensuring lawmakers hear directly from the constituents they represent.
Primary Responsibilities
- Call residents within states where State Defense Force legislation is being considered.
- Provide clear and accurate information about the proposed bill and its intended purpose.
- Encourage interested residents to contact their state legislators and respectfully request support for the legislation.
- Provide residents with publicly available legislator contact information and approved talking points.
- Record outreach results, questions, concerns, and expressions of support.
- Refer detailed legislative or policy questions to the Legislative Advocacy Coordinator.
- Participate in brief training sessions and follow approved outreach scripts and communication standards.
- Represent the organization professionally, respectfully, and without pressuring residents.
This is an unpaid volunteer position that generally requires making several dozen telephone calls each week during the state legislative session, typically between January and May. Volunteers should be comfortable speaking with members of the public, able to follow established scripts, and committed to courteous, factual, and responsible advocacy.
